Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC) – Program Manager

Florida International University is seeking a dedicated Program Manager to lead our outreach and engagement efforts and help preserve cultural heritage through the Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC).

The ideal candidate will have a passion for Caribbean history and will be able to collaborate effectively with universities and cultural heritage institutions to advance the scholarly use of dLOC’s collections.

The Program Manager will also play an important role in organizing programming that celebrates the traditions and culture of the Caribbean diaspora and will work closely with local organizations and the dLOC team to support these efforts.

Job Summary

The dLOC Program Manager will provide leadership in outreach and engagement with Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC) collections, programming, and scholarly use of collection materials through collaboration with Caribbean partners and Caribbean diaspora communities. The successful candidate will engage local organizations to support initiatives aimed at maintaining the traditions and culture of the Caribbean diaspora. The Program Manager will develop partnerships with universities and cultural heritage institutions in the Caribbean in order to promote collaboration between scholars.

  • Serves as the dLOC outreach lead for communities and organizations in the Caribbean as well as South Florida. Works with diverse communities that speak English, Spanish, French, or Creole.
  • Identifies, develops, and cultivates new dLOC relationships and partnerships.
  • Provides support to dLOC partners and local diaspora communities in developing initiatives centered on Caribbean history, culture, society.
  • Supports faculty and students in the interdisciplinary scholarly use of dLOC collection materials.
  • Develops written communications and events to increase the awareness of dLOC in coordination with the dLOC teams at FIU and UF.
  • Collaborates with Administration on conducting fundraising activities to grow the program, working with donors and contributors in US and in the Caribbean.
  • Participates in grant writing and/or serving on grant projects as key personnel or in leadership roles.
  • Acts as a contributing member of FIU dLOC cohort, collaborating across various university departments.
  • Works cooperatively on departmental, library-wide, FIU, and dLOC initiatives as appropriate to position functions.
  • Maintains current awareness of community archive practices in terms of community engagement and funding development.
  • Actively participates in local, national, and international meetings and organizations.
  • Acts as liaison between FIU and UF dLOC teams, collaborating closely with the Caribbean Partnership Librarian, dLOC Project Coordinator, and others.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate specialization and four (4) years of related experience, or Master’s degree in an appropriate specialization and two (2) years related experience.

Departmental Requirements

Proficiency in both written and spoken English as well as one of the following: Spanish, French, or Creole

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in a library, archive, museum, or other cultural heritage organization.
  • Record of successful engagement with scholars, archivists, and/or librarians within the Caribbean
  • Ability to work flexibly, creatively, independently, and collaboratively within the library and university communities as well as across dLOC and south Florida communities.
  • Experience with fundraising, strategic planning, and/or project management
  • Subject expertise in Caribbean Studies.

  • Must attend meetings off campus and occasionally attend functions on weekends and evening
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally.
