The Department of English at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for two tenure track positions: 1) Assistant Professor of African American literature, pre-1900; and 2) Assistant or Associate Professor of African American literature, post-1900. We seek two scholars with promising records of scholarship and teaching to begin Fall 2022. The Department of English enjoys a close relationship with the Clara Luper Department of African and African American Studies, sharing a building space and faculty affiliations. Required qualifications include a PhD in English, African American Studies, or an allied field by August 2022. Both faculty positions are full-time, nine-month appointments with a standard teaching assignment of two courses per semester.

Review of candidates begins November 1, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled. To apply online, submit a CV, writing sample (25-30 pages), three letters of reference, and a cover letter describing your research, teaching and community engagement, also including a statement describing how you envision contributing to African American studies in the department.
