The Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park seeks applicants for the position of Advanced Assistant or Associate Professor in Black Feminist Thought and/or Black Women’s Studies.  We invite applications from persons whose scholarly production falls along the more traditional meaning of monographs and refereed journal articles and those whose scholarship is evidenced in performative and other creative venues or in legal or policy work.  The successful applicant must hold a Ph.D. or comparable terminal degree and have a distinguished record of research and scholarship, a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and an aptitude for mentoring graduate students in an interdisciplinary program.

We have a commitment to the mentoring and training of graduate and undergraduate students of color and to building curricula and programming that are anti-racist, trans-inclusive, and non-ableist.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses in their area of expertise, to share in teaching the department’s core undergraduate and graduate courses, and to contribute to building departmental strengths and emphases, including the minor in Black Women’s Studies. They will also be expected to participate actively in the life of the Department and the University.  We look forward to a colleague who will not only help us grow and develop our existing programs but also introduce us to exciting potential new directions.
