SLAS Conference Latin American Scholars’ Grants

DEADLINE: 19 November (Annually)

SLAS usually makes available five awards of up to £1000 to contribute to the registration, travel and accommodation costs of scholars based in Latin America to enable them to attend and present a paper at the SLAS conference. It is recognised that the grant cannot cover the full costs of attending the conference but may be used in conjunction with other sources of funding. Awards will be distributed at the SLAS conference by the Treasurer. Recipients are required to produce a 1000 word report (in Spanish, Portuguese or English) including the abstract for their paper and describing their experience of the conference. Reports may be published on the SLAS website. In some circumstances, funds may be granted to prominent speakers from outside the academy (for example to representatives of NGOs).

Only in exceptional circumstances will it be possible for two speakers on the same panel to receive a Latin American Scholars’ Grant. In cases where two speakers from a panel submit an application the panel convenor may be consulted to determine who should receive the grant.

Wherever possible, when the criteria are met, two of the awards will be reserved for early career scholars who are within five years of completion of their thesis/dissertation. Applicants should indicate on the form if they wish to be considered in this category and state why they qualify for this category of award.

Applications should be submitted by the applicant, by email to the SLAS Secretary Dr Sarah Bowskill at s.bowskill@qub.ac.uk. No reference is required for this scheme.
