POSITION DETAILS

Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) seeks a seasoned academic administrator with highly developed analytical skills and with a deep knowledge of the opportunities and challenges confronting public higher educational institutions today. The Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness provides college-wide leadership and oversight for strategic planning, assessment and accreditation activities in the pursuit of academic excellence, student success, and administrative effectiveness. The Associate Provost promotes a college-wide culture of evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement by routinely analyzing, distributing and presenting institutional data and relevant research that identifies best practices in higher education for all units of the college. The Associate Provost ensures the College’s compliance with CUNY, state, federal and Middle States requirements.

The Associate Provost partners with the Provost in leading the implementation of the college’s Strategic Plan and its Institutional Effectiveness Plan, and works closely with the vice presidents, deans, and directors responsible for developing and carrying out these plans. In close collaboration with the Provost, the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Vice President of Enrollment Management, the academic deans, and the Director of Institutional Research, the Associate Provost monitors all institutional success indicators and works on their on-going improvement.  He/she will design, develop, and implement strategies to assess and improve the quality and effectiveness of all areas of the college, evaluate and recommend appropriate resource allocation and continually assess progress and issue progress reports.

The Associate Provost inspires the faculty, academic deans, and vice presidents to focus on the achievement of student learning outcomes and faculty success. He/she assists departments and academic support units in refining student learning outcomes and in developing appropriate assessment plans for these outcomes.  The Associate Provost oversees annual planning and on-going assessment activities across the college and manages all accreditation activities.   The Associate Provost also provides oversight for the Office of Research Compliance to promote the ethical and responsible conduct of research on campus in accordance with regulatory requirements.

The Associate Provost reports directly to the Provost/Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, and supervises the Assessment Manager and administrative support staff. She/he is a member of the Provost’s senior staff.  The Associate Provost acts on behalf of the Provost when required, writes reports, policy statements, and proposals, and performs other management and supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the Provost.  He/she chairs the Institutional Assessment Council and the Academic Assessment Council and is a member of various college governance committees and working groups.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY’s Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and eight years’ related experience.

  • An earned doctorate (or equivalent) with a minimum of eight years of faculty and/or academic administrative/leadership experience
  • Experience in institution-wide planning and assessment

  • Effective communication skills, including excellent skills in writing and data presentation
  • Up-to-date knowledge and experience in planning and assessment
  • Successful track-record in managing accreditation activities

  • Experience working with faculty in a shared governance environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An academic record consistent with appointment as a tenured faculty member in an academic unit of the college.
  • A background in quantitative and qualitative research.
