Associate or Full Professor – Gender & Women’s Studies/Black Studies
The University of Illinois at Chicago’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, in conjunction with the Racialized Body Cluster Initiative, is pleased to announce a tenured faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor rank. This search is part of a multiple-hire cluster initiative that brings together scholars who examine the ways that contemporary and historical notions of race, racial ideology and racial politics are manifested in how the “body” is represented, inhabited and regulated. The Cluster has two broad trajectories: the study of mechanisms by which racialized bodies are defined, policed and regulated; and the response to efforts to define and control racialized bodies through everyday practices and collective forms of resistance. The appointment will be jointly held in the Department of Black Studies and the Gender and Women’s Studies Program and we seek a colleague who will help to deepen the long-standing intellectual connections between the two units. The areas of specialization for this position are open, and we especially welcome candidates whose scholarship offers international, transnational, or global analyses of the African diaspora through feminist and/or queer of color methodologies.
We are looking for a colleague who will bring with them some administrative experience and an interest in mentoring junior faculty, as well as guiding the Cluster activities and programs. A successful candidate will be able to teach advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in their areas of expertise, as well as general education survey courses. In addition to each department’s thriving majors and minors, both Black Studies and Gender and Women’s Studies offer robust and popular graduate concentrations. The ideal candidate’s fields of expertise will complement existing course offerings and areas of specialization at UIC.
