Assistant Professor of Sociology – Race and Social Justice in Global/Transnational Contexts

The Department of Global & Sociocultural Studies at Florida International University is searching for an Assistant Professor of Sociology in Race and Social Justice in Global/Transnational Contexts, beginning in Fall 2022. A Ph.D. in Sociology is required and must be in-hand by August 12, 2022. The candidate will teach a regular 2-2 load and contribute to the Department’s undergraduate and graduate programs. The ideal candidate will be able to teach courses in Sociology, including Sociological Theory, while also contributing to a highly interdisciplinary department. We welcome work from a range of critical perspectives including decolonial/postcolonial, diaspora, feminist/intersectional, DuBoisian, and queer of color perspectives, with a transnational and/or global geographic scope.

The candidate is expected to demonstrate the ability to develop a publication and external research funding record in line with FIU’s tenure and promotion guidelines for promotion to Associate Professor and the University’s R1-level research status. The person hired may also find community amongst colleagues working in numerous initiatives and centers across campus, including the African and African Diaspora Studies Program, the Cuban Research Institute, the Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center, the Asian Studies Program, the Moshin & Fauzia Jaffer Center for Muslim World Studies, the Research Network for Health and Society, and the Global Indigenous Forum, among others.
