The School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies (SHPRS) seeks an early‐career scholar whose work investigates gender and/or sexuality in modern (19th ‐ 20th century) Latin America, the Caribbean, or the Latinx United States. We are especially interested in scholars
who take a transnational approach to their research and teaching.
We wish to hire a scholar who will thrive in a multi‐disciplinary environment to provide exemplary teaching, research, and community engagement. The ideal applicant will be reflective about their methodologies, able to engage both public and academic audiences, and prepared to work with a diverse set of students across multiple learning modalities.
The full‐time, academic year, tenure‐eligible appointment will begin in fall of 2022 and includes a 2/2 teaching load. The successful candidate will be required to teach courses both in their area of research and as required by the major or graduate programs. They will also be required to render service to the university, to the academic profession, and to the public.
Required Qualifications:
- A PhD in History or related discipline by the time of the appointment.
- Evidence of research excellence.
- Demonstrated ability to teach a diverse student body.
- Scholarship and service that reflect a commitment to social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- The ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of people, both academic and non‐academic.
- Ability or willingness to teach both online and in‐person
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated interest in one or more of the following: empire, migration, diasporic communities, race and ethnicity.

The appointment will be in the History faculty of the School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies (SHPRS), the largest transdisciplinary school in the humanities at ASU, located in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. ASU’s campus is located in the midst of three of the twenty‐two Indigenous communities in Arizona—the Salt River, Gila River, and Ak‐Chin reservations. Therefore, SHPRS is dedicated to teaching Indigenous history, philosophy, and religion, supporting Native students, and collaborating with Indigenous nations in the region to protect Native sovereignty. The history faculty is committed to public facing scholarship that engages these issues.
