Assistant Professor in African/African Diasporic Literature

The English department at the University of Missouri, a public land-grant research university in the state of Missouri, seeks to hire an Assistant Professor in African / African Diasporic Literature. The English department consists of 35 faculty members working in various fields of literature as well as creative writing, rhetoric/composition, and linguistics.

We are particularly interested in applicants working in all periods of African, African American, or African Diaspora literature. Candidates whose work includes a focus on gender and sexuality studies are encouraged to apply. The person who is hired will have a 2/2 teaching load in addition to research and service requirements. Teaching duties will include introductory courses designed to help draw a diverse range of students into the undergraduate major, as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate courses focused on topics of interest to the faculty member. Candidates must complete a PhD in English or a related field by August 1, 2024.
