Assistant/Associate Professor in African and/or Caribbean Literature

The Department of English Studies at Durham University seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in Modern and Contemporary Literature (Grade 7, 8, or 9). The successful candidate will have research and teaching interests in the broad field of Anglophone African and/or Caribbean literatures, as well as relevant interests in colonial, postcolonial and/or decolonial history and theory.
Interests in one or more of the following areas are particularly welcome: anti-colonialism, ecology, transnational frameworks, critical and/or intersectional theories of race, war studies, visual culture, poetics. The successful candidate will join and contribute to a department with existing strengths in African American, Australian, Caribbean, Irish, Scottish, and South Asian literatures.
The successful candidate will be able to provide evidence of outstanding research potential and/or achievement in any area of Anglophone African and/or Caribbean literatures and will be expected to develop undergraduate and postgraduate modules reflecting their research specialism, as well as to teach broadly on the Department’s curriculum. S/he will also be expected to attract and supervise postgraduate research students at PhD level and will contribute to strengthening and enhancing the University’s international profile through teaching and research of global reach and significance.
