Symposium of Applied Research
The Trench Town Polytechnic College (TTPC) – in alignment with its motto: “Excellence,
Innovation, and Creativity”- is committed to the use of education and research to disrupt the
entrenched disadvantage and social exclusion experienced by the residents of Trench Town and its surrounding areas. Similarly, the Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission (J-TEC) is
committed to the transformation of the higher education sector in Jamaica through its regulatory and supervisory functions, as well as its keen focus on research-driven policy and practice.
Accordingly, the College and the Commission are pleased to announce their inaugural
Symposium of Applied Research, under the theme: “Transforming Places, Empowering Lives:
Leveraging Education Toward Sustainable Development and Social Inclusion”. This event will showcase the use of best practices in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) education toward deconstructing marginalisation and resilience-building in Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
We therefore invite abstract submissions for empirical research and conceptual papers, which may be submitted for presentation in the following categories:
● Poster presentation (45-minute session)
● Individual paper presentation (20-minute session)
Abstract submissions are open to all internal and external educational stakeholders, including
students, educators, administrators, researchers, and policymakers. The symposium will focus on research grounded in the realities of the Global South, however, submissions relevant to the
theme from all regions are welcomed.
