Open Rank Tenure Track or Tenured Faculty in African American Studies

The African American Studies department in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Houston is searching for an open rank tenure track or tenured faculty in African American Studies. We seek a teacher-scholar in the humanities or social sciences who can teach the Introduction to African American Studies course and develop new and exciting courses. Scholars with specialties in health or medicine, gender and/or sexuality, performance studies, or religious studies are especially encouraged to apply. We also welcome scholars with a secondary area of research in Africa and/or the African diaspora (non-U.S.). A PhD in African American Studies/African or African Diaspora, Gender Studies, American Studies, or a field in the social sciences and humanities is required. Expectations of this position include: teaching a 2-2 load, building and maintaining a national/international research profile, contributing to the department’s student-centered mission, serving on departmental, college, and/or university committees, and seeking fellowships, grants, and other external funding.
