The Barbara T. Christian Award, 2010 “What I write and how I write is done in order to save my life. ...Literature is a way of knowing that I am not hallucinating, that whatever I feel/know is. It is an affirmation that sensuality is intelligence, that sensual language is language that makes sense.” From “The Race for Theory” The Barbara T. Christian Literary Award was established in 2001 by CSA past President Dr. Cora Christian to
celebrate her sister’s intellectual legacy in black feminist criticism. A $500 cash award and certificate will be given to the best paper presented by an Undergraduate, Graduate or Junior (non-tenured) faculty in any discipline presented at the 2010 Caribbean Studies Association Conference in Barbados. While papers may be on any subject, the methodology, analysis and/or themes should reflect those issues important to Dr. Barbara T. Christian, either through the use of her work, or by embodying a framework, perspective, or approach clearly rooted in the ideas and insights of black feminist thought.
