EMILIO JORGE RODRÍGUEZ
Ensayista, investigador literario y editor cubano. Nació en San Antonio de los Baños, en 1947. Terminó estudios de Licenciatura en Lengua y Literaturas Hispánicas en la Universidad de La Habana en 1970 y obtuvo en 1984 la categoría de Investigador Auxiliar (3er Nivel de Investigación Científica en escala de 4), conferida por la Academia de Ciencias de Cuba. Ha participado en numerosas conferencias sobre temas de literatura y cultura caribeña en Estados Unidos, países de Europa, América Latina y el Caribe. Ha dictado conferencias e impartido cursos en las Universidades de La Habana, Puerto Rico, Carolina de Praga, City University of New York (Lehman, Hunter, Brooklyn y Hostos Community College), Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Cornell University, Vassar College, Marist College, Syracuse University, Middlebury College, Amherst College, Florida International University, University of the West Indies, Freie Universität Berlin, Université Quisqueya (Haití), Universidad de los Andes, Universität Bayreuth, Katholische Universität Eichstätt y UNAM. Ha colaborado, entre otras, en las publicaciones siguientes: Universidad de La Habana, Casa de las Américas, Bim, Caribbean Quarterly, Cuadernos Americanos, Revue Internationale de Litterature Comparé, Del Caribe, Gaceta de Cuba, Temas, Revolución y Cultura. Recibió el Premio “Razón de Ser” del Centro de Promoción Cultural Alejo Carpentier (1986), la Beca de Investigación del CUNY Caribbean Exchange Program (1992) y participó en el Visiting Scholars’ Program del Africana Studies and Research Center, Cornell University / Ford Foundation (1994, 1997). En 2001 recibió la Beca de investigación de la Fundación Nicolás Guillén y obtuvo el Premio Latinoamericano y Caribeño de Ensayo Tercer Milenio de La Gaceta de Cuba y la Universidad de Antioquia. Obtuvo el Premio Anual de la Crítica Literaria 2013. En enero de 2015 se le otorgó el Premio “Este Caribe Nuestro 2014” por la obra de toda la vida, conferido por la Cátedra de Estudios del Caribe de la Universidad de La Habana. En 2017 obtuvo el Premio Casa de las Américas de Estudios sobre la Presencia Negra en la América y el Caribe contemporáneos. Desde 1989 es miembro del Tribunal de Categorías Científicas del Instituto de Literatura y Lingüística de Cuba. Fue coordinador del equipo de trabajo Caribe del Diccionario Enciclopédico de las Letras de América Latina (Fundación Biblioteca Ayacucho, Caracas, 1996); miembro de la Junta de Asesores y colaborador de la Encyclopedia of Caribbean Literature (Greenwood Press, 2006) y colaborador del Dictionary of Caribbean and Afro-Latin American Biography (Oxford University Press, 2016). Ha sido jurado del Premio Literario Casa de las Américas (1994), del Premio Nacional de Cultura COLCULTURA (1996), del Concurso Internacional Oralidad ORCALC-UNESCO (1996, 1997) y del Grand Prix Littéraire Caribéen (2011, 2013). En Casa de las Américas se desempeñó como investigador del Centro de Investigaciones Literarias (1972-1978) y del Centro de Estudios del Caribe (1979-2000), que dirigió de 1994 a 1998. Fundador/Director de la publicación académica Anales del Caribe (1981-2000). Desde 2004 es miembro de la Cátedra de Estudios del Caribe de la Universidad de la Habana.
Editor de la Colección Biblioteca de Cultura Haitiana (CIDIHCA, Montreal); ha integrado el Comité Editorial de la Revista Mexicana del Caribe, el Comité Académico de la Biblioteca del Caribe (Puerto Rico), el Consejo Editorial de la Revista Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades (Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala) y la Junta Editorial de la Revista Cayey (Universidad de Puerto Rico). Miembro de la Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC), la Asociación de Escritores del Caribe (Guadalupe), la CSA y LASA.

Essayist, literary researcher and Cuban editor. He was born in San Antonio de los Baños, in 1947. He finished his studies in Spanish Language and Literature at the University of Havana in 1970 and obtained the category of Auxiliary Researcher in 1984 (3rd Level of Scientific Research in a scale of 4), conferred by the Academy of Sciences of Cuba. In 2001, he received the Research Fellowship from the Nicolás Guillén Foundation and received the Latin American and Caribbean Third Millennium Essay Award from La Gaceta de Cuba and the University of Antioquia. He obtained the Annual Prize for Literary Criticism 2013. In January 2015, he was awarded the “Este Caribe Nuestro 2014” Prize for the work of a lifetime, conferred by the Caribbean Studies Chair of the University of Havana. In 2017 he won the Casa de las Américas Prize for Studies on the Black Presence in Contemporary America and the Caribbean. Since 1989 he has been a member of the Scientific Categories Tribunal of the Institute of Literature and Linguistics of Cuba. He was the coordinator of the Caribbean work team of the Diccionario Enciclopédico de las Letras de América Latina (Fundación Biblioteca Ayacucho, Caracas, 1996); member of the Advisory Board and contributor to the Encyclopedia of Caribbean Literature (Greenwood Press, 2006) and contributor to the Dictionary of Caribbean and Afro-Latin American Biography (Oxford University Press, 2016). He has been a member of the Casa de las Américas Literary Prize (1994), the COLCULTURA National Culture Award (1996), the ORCALC-UNESCO International Orality Competition (1996, 1997) and the Grand Prix Littéraire Caribéen (2011, 2013). In Casa de las Américas he worked as a researcher at the Literary Research Center (1972-1978) and at the Center for Caribbean Studies (1979- 2000), which he directed from 1994 to 1998. Founder / Director of the academic publication Anales del Caribe (1981- 2000). Since 2004, he has been a member of the Chair of Caribbean Studies of the University of Havana.
