Curious about the connected histories of more than four continents? Excited to explore the diverse populations, cultures and languages of the place where globalization began? Discover the world in the Caribbean by joining the Caribbean Cultural Studies Program at SUNY Buffalo in New York (USA). Positioned at the intersection of several major traditions and knowledge areas including: African, African-American, Latin-American, Indigenous and Iberian studies, as well as, Race, Ethnicity, Religion, coloniality and Postcolonial and Cultural studies, this trans-disciplinary program offers students one of the broadest intellectual experiences possible at the Masters level. This is a one-of-a-kind abroad program supported by a dynamic set of international partnerships on both sides of the Atlantic. Study for four semesters in five different locations: Buffalo, Madrid, Seville, Merida (Yucatan), and an alternating Caribbean destination (decided by each incoming class!). Our graduates are well positioned to enter a broad range of doctoral programs and to conduct advanced research in a variety of disciplines in the Social and Human Sciences and the Liberal Arts.

Curieux de ces histoires reliant entre-eux plus de 4 continents? Intéressez par les diverses populations, cultures et langues provenant du berceau de la mondialisation? Venez découvrir les mondes des Caraïbes en intégrant le Caribbean Cultural Studies Program à SUNY Buffalo, à New York. Ce programme s'est développé à l'intersection de plusieurs traditions academiques telles que les études Africaines, Afro-Américaines, Latinos et Natives-Américaines, ainsi que les études sur la race, l' éthnicité, la religion, l'époque coloniale et post-coloniale, et les Cultural Studies. Ce programme trans-disciplinaire offre à ses étudiants une formation extrêmement vaste à niveau de master. Unique au monde, ce master est rendu possible par une multitudes de partenariats universitaires des deux côtés de l'atlantique. Ainsi, vous pourrez étudier quatre semestres dans 5 villes différentes: Buffalo, Madrid, Séville, Merida (dans le Yucatan), en plus de diverses destinations dans les Caraïbes (choisies par le groupe d'étudiants eux mêmes!). CONVOCATORIA

El Comité Editorial de la revista Estudios Latinoamericanos convoca a los(las) investigadores(as) en ciencias sociales y humanidades a enviar propuestas de artículos para ser publicados en el número 33 (enero-junio 2014) y en el número 34 (julio-diciembre 2014). Los artículos deberán
inscribirse en cualquiera de las temáticas de esta convocatoria y sujetarse a lo establecido en el documento “Requisitos para los colaboradores” adjunto; podrán entregarse en el Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos de la Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales de la UNAM o enviarse a la dirección electrónica de la revista, según los datos al calce.

Objetivo:
Número 33: Analizar las repercusiones de las reformas laborales con relación al Estado y a los diversos actores sociales (trabajadores) de la región latinoamericana con énfasis en los procesos de desregulación, flexibilización y precarización del trabajo.
Número 34: Analizar los procesos de cambio que dieron lugar a la transformación de los sistemas políticos de países de la región latinoamericana durante las dos últimas décadas del siglo XX y principios del siglo XXI.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT (ECONOMETRICS SPECIALIST)

General Duties:

The research assistant will provide research and organizational support to the Director. Research projects will focus on the study and interpretation of the social conditions of the Puerto Rican community in the United States.

Specific duties include:

Conduct statistical analysis of complex datasets in Stata.
Process, consolidate and transform data sets within and between databases using statistical and/or econometric techniques
Maintain and update quantitative and qualitative economic, financial or statistical databases.
Conduct literature and data searches for ongoing research projects.
Provide other research, writing and editing support for various reports, funding proposals and documents.
Organize and attend meetings/conferences related to research priorities.
Perform other duties as necessary in support of the Director.

Qualifications:
¡¤Master¡s degree in economics, statistics, policy, planning, computer science, math, business or other related field is preferred.

Training in econometrics and experience in applying econometrics are required. Mathematics background is helpful.
A minimum of 1-2 years of work experience is desirable.
Essential Software skills: SPSS or Stata for the descriptive and econometric analysis of cross©\section and panel data. MS Excel to construct spreadsheet models and to make publication©\quality graphics. MS Word competence, including page and document formatting.
Familiarity with issues related to economics, policy, the analysis of social conditions and related topics.
Outstanding communications and writing skills. It is desirable, but not in any way required, that the candidate have language skills in Spanish.
Ability to work independently and with small groups in academic settings.

Warwick Transatlantic Fellowships launched

Warwick Transatlantic Fellowships launched

The University of Warwick's Humanities Research Centre has launched a new scheme aiming to deepen and broaden research links between Warwick and universities in the US and the Caribbean.

Five Warwick Transatlantic Fellowships worth $2,000 will be available for US and Caribbean-based post-doctoral fellows who wish to spend a short period at the University of Warwick, working with a Warwick-based academic.

One Fellowship is reserved for Caribbean-based scholars and applications from the region are strongly encouraged.

The Fellowships are jointly funded by the Humanities Research Centre, the Institute of Advanced Study, the EPSRC, and the Yesu Persuad Cantre for Caribbean Studies.

The deadline for applications is 15 January 2013.

We are writing to let you know of an exciting postdoctoral opportunity at Brandeis University and to ask your help in spreading the word to emerging scholars in your field. We have received a Mellon Foundation grant to host a year-long Sawyer Seminar, "Rethinking the Age of Revolution: Rights,
Representation, and the Global Imaginary," during the 2013-2014 academic year. The seminar, which will draw faculty from around the region and doctoral students from our campus, explores the American, French, and Haitian revolutions in comparative and interdisciplinary perspective, with a particular
eye on the implications of the age of revolution in the early twenty-first century.

The Sawyer Seminar provides for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship for a scholar of the Caribbean in the age of revolution, preferably with an emphasis on Haiti, in any academic discipline. The successful candidate will take a central role in the seminar but will have no further teaching responsibilities.
We are looking for an early-career scholar of exceptional promise who can make a deep contribution to the seminar and to the vibrant intellectual communities both at Brandeis and in the metropolitan area.
